Abstract
On Ali Ekrem Bolayir’s Thoughts About Servet-i Fünun Literature
Ali Ekrem is one of the writers of Servet-i Fünûn literature. He held various state positions and taught literature at Darülfünûn. He published poems with the name of A.Nadir in Servet-i Fünûn Magazine. Since he was the son of Namık Kemal, he had the opportunity to establish a relationship with the writers and poets of the period and witnessed the formation and development of that period. While he was writing his memories in the following years, he gave information about the establishment of Servet-i Fünûn literature and the leading writers of this literature. He explained his thoughts on Hâlit Ziya, Cenap Şehabettin, İsmail Safa, Ahmet Reşit Bey, Süleyman Nazif and especially Tevfik Fikret. The author, who gave information about the writers who took part in the establishment of the literature of Servet-i Fünun, did not give information about the authors who later joined the movement. Ali Ekrem talked about Tevfik Fikret's artistic personality, as well as emphasizing his joy in his first period and the reasons for his grudge in the last period. He praised Hâlit Ziya for his novelism and competence in prose, Cenap Şehabettin for his poems and prose. He emphasized the role of İsmail Safa in the recognition of Tevfik Fikret and his transition from the old literary understanding to the new literary understanding in the literary realm. He emphasized Ahmet Reşit Bey, whom he did not like his poems, with his scientific and reasoning skills. He introduced Suleyman Nazif as a prose master and also stated that he had a unique talent in satire and criticism.
