Abstract
Humayun’s Concept of Cosmological Sovereignty
Babur Shah died in 1526 before he could not consolidate the foundations of the state, established in North India. His son Humâyun, who left his throne with many problems, could not carry out the necessary reforms. However, he tried to build a new sense of sovereignty during the first decade of his pre-1540 reign, when he had to leave India as defeated by Sher Shah Sur. The organizational and cultural life in the period of Humâyun was shaped by the Timurid heritage and the scientific level in India, benefited by the Baburids. In this environment, he developed a model of political organization, which introduced a cosmological change in the doctrine of his reign. This different perspective made an unusual contribution to the history of Baburids. In this article, we will try to evaluate the scientific and political context by outlining this initiative of Humâyun. To examine how the classifications he made in accordance with the new understanding of sovereignty were shaped with knowledge and influence will provide an accurate perspective on this issue. In addition, the scientific basis of intellectual developments occurring in this period will try to be emphasized. In the article, the works of the Baburid palace historians of the period will be used and previous studies on this subject will be evaluated.
