Abstract


The Status of Use of Learning Strategies of the Language and Multilingual Students That Learn Turkish as a Foreign Language
The main purpose of this study is to examine learning strategies of monolingual and multilingual learners. 107 students who are learning Turkish language at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Marmara University and İstanbul Aydın University at B1and C1 level participated to the current study. In the study, General Scanning Model has been used. Descriptive and inferential analysis have been used to diagnose the differences whether there are differences related to strategies used in learning Turkish, gender of the students, age, educational level, language level, the number of the languages they know and how long they have been to Turkey. In the study, the Language Learning Strategy inventory and Personal Information form that are developed by Oxford (1990) and adapted to Turkish by Cesur and Fer (2007). In accordance with the results of the study, Meta Cognitive Strategies with an average of 3.75 are the ones that are used most commonly. Besides, Affective Strategies are used least with an average of 3.30. In terms of demographic features of the monolingual and bilingual participants, it was observed that male students use stragies more frequently compared to females. Overall, the results Show that language learning strategies have been used at a high level in all pupils.
