Katibi (Seydi Ali Reis) and his Divan
16th Century is a period of living the peak of classical Turkish poetry. At this term, hundreds of poets had grown in addition to great poets to the history of Turkish literature. One of these poets is Seydi Ali Çelebi taking part in various levels of government and, especially with his successes in marine being prometed to the Captain of Indian. Seydi Ali Çelebi from Galata/İstanbul had been in the duties of Azaplar clerkship and shipyard, and joined lots of navigations such as Rodos, Preveze and Trablusgarp. During Nahcivan Navigation of Kanuni, Seydi Ali Reis being brought to the captain of Indian Sea and later, working as a miscellaneous, grooming timar of Diyarbakır and chief of hassa ship in Galata had spent his days by compling his works from his retirement to his death in 1562. Seydi Ali Çelebi writing poems with the nickname of Katibi because of his job clerk in a term had collected his poems in his Divan. In this study, after given information about the good poet Katibi and his literatural personality, especially taking attention with his successes of marine branch of 16th century, some examples from his poems will take place by focusing on characteristics of form and muhteva of his Divan.
