Abstract

Voice of Turkistan's National Struggle Abroad. Yaş Turkistan Journal (1929-1939)
After the 1917 Revolution in Russia, the Turkistani people who were in Petersburg and Moscow, both for education and training, came together and tried to establish an independent Turkistan State. Some of the Turkestan intellectuals who were unable to succeed in these initiatives had to leave the country as the Soviet administration had become increasingly oppressive and exclusionist. Some of them organized in Turkey, especially in Europe. From this period, the period of national struggle for the independence of Turkistan has started. Mustafa Çokayoğlu and other Turkish intellectuals were supporters of establishing the Turkestan Republic instead of being divided as Kazakh-Kirghiz- Uzbek. The nationalist intellectuals, who preferred explaining the situation of Turkistan and Turkistani people to the world public opinion, have decided to carry out ideological battles in countries that they visited through press. From this point of view, the Yash Turkestan journal (1929-1939), published under the leadership of Mustafa Çokayoğlu, has the feature of being the most comprehensive magazine about the transformations and changes that took place in Turkistan in the process of the destruction of Tsarist Russia and the establishment of the Soviet Union. The journal, which coincided with the years when Soviet policies were established, has the characteristic of being the voices of the Turkistani people who have lived as immigrants for 10 years. In this article, the purpose of publication of Yash Turkestan, its method, objective, content, mission, impact area and position in terms of the history of Turkish press will be evaluated.
