Abstract


Azerbaijani Turkish from the Beginning
There have been a limited number of researches related to Azerbaijani Turkish, closest dialect of Western Turkish to Turkey Turkish. In general, structure and grammar of the relevant dialect have been focused on within the researches made, while formation of the dialcet and envrionemnet and reasons as well as historical development of this formation has been left out. Thus, information regarding formation of Azerbaijani Turkish and its development has been restricted to information given in encyclopaedia articles and in Azerbaijani Turkish grammar and history books. This information is not sufficient to understand the Azerbaijani Turkish formation, its historical development and current situation. It requires new researches and more information. In this study, formation and development process of Azerbaijani Turkish, a modern dialect of Western Turkish, from the beginning until today has been examined in light of historical data. First off, separation process of Turkish from being a single written language to different written languages in light of historical process experienced by communities that settled in Azerbaijan region as of Huns and things that were experienced in this period. Rising of Western Turkish written language, separation process of this type of Turkish into dialects, formation and development process of Azerbaijani Turkish written language have been examined. In this context, information has been given related to written and verbal language development process of Azerbaijani Turkish, its current situation, regions where it is used as spoken and written language as well as related to Azerbaijani Turkish literature and folklore. Furthermore, information has been given about regions where Azerbaijani Turkish has impact and characteristics in Anatolia as well as contact and combination points of two of these dialects. In the light of all these, factors that have been influential in formation of Azerbaijani Turkish have been tried to be determined. Therefore, the aim has been to contribute to the clarification and comprehension of Azerbaijani Turkish formation and its development process.
